FINDING THE RIGHT PLACE TO STAY

Where Should I Stay?

The answer to this question depends on a number of factors. Our groups generally fall in two categories…
1
“This is the trip of a lifetime, we’re going all out and want our accommodation experience to be as good as the golf!”
Consider a 5-star hotel or 4-star hotel
If you want a nice place AND care about your room, then also consider upgrading your rooms to overlook the course or the sea or to simply have more space! Standard rooms usually don’t have a special view. We do have clients that are accustomed to 4 and 5-star hotels but stay in B&Bs/guesthouses because they want that type of experience and don’t mind everything being smaller.
2
“We’re going for the golf and don’t plan to be in the hotel much so let’s go with something clean and comfortable and save a bit while at it. We don’t mind stairs, small rooms, and few amenities.”
Consider a 3-star hotel or a B&B/guesthouse
Your Golf Travel Advisor can help you pin-point what is right for your group.

HOW TO GET AROUNDS

What Do Other Groups Do?

We offer three modes of transportation, all of which are described below. Note though that one of the options (Private Group Transfers) is only available in the Northwest of England. Our Golf Travel Advisors can assist in evaluating what option is best for your group.
Car Rental Fill icon

Rental Vehicle

Most people have rented a car and know what to expect. It’s no different outside of North America. Do note that a group of 4 golfers with clubs and luggage will often not fit comfortably in a typical minivan or SUV. For such groups, we use full-size fans with 7-9 seats.
Pros
  • Autonomy/Flexibility
  • Cost
Cons
  • Steering wheel is on the right side of the vehicle
  • Driving on the left side of the road
  • Dealing with busy roundabouts and narrow roads
  • Fender benders and dealing with insurance if something happens
  • Parking (especially in London)
  • No local driver to lean on for advice (or driving)
  • Gasoline and diesel are significantly more expensive than in the US
Airport Shuttle Fill icon

Private Group Transfers

We can arrange private group transfers so that our driver will be waiting for your group upon your arrival at the airport, and we will provide a transfer to each course and then back to the airport. This option is only available in the Northwest of England. You may not have the same driver or vehicle for each transfer. You will have to stick to specific pick-up and drop off times, but we will let you choose those (in advance) in case you want a few pints after your round.
Pros
  • Worry-free - no need to worry about driving on the other side of the road, dealing with roundabouts and narrow roads, or finding how to get to your destination
  • Cost
Cons
  • Little or no flexibility to adjust pickup or dropoff times once on trip
  • If you don’t appear for the pickup at arrange time, you may lose your transfer
  • Can’t leave belongings in vehicle
  • Can’t stop for lunch or to visit the castle on the way unless prearranged
  • Limited availability (only Dublin area)

Full-time Private Chauffeur and Vehicle

Our most popular mode of transportation in England for larger groups. Each year we have hundreds of clients who tell us that their driver made the trip! We can’t emphasize enough how much our clients absolutely love this service (see our Google reviews). Our vehicles are luxurious, and it’s great to play cards at the tables or reminisce about your round over a beer. Some bigger vehicles (for >12 people) have more amenities (e.g., a bathroom). Feedback from our clients is mostly centered around how wonderful the driver was and how nice the vehicles are. So many of our clients come back from a trip saying that they will remain friends and keep in touch with the driver going forward as he/she went above and beyond to make their trip special with their insight, willingness to help with anything, and with plenty of laughs (some drivers are funnier than others) :-)
This service is different from the above “Private Group Transfers” in that you have the vehicle and driver at your disposal for anything you’d like to do during the day subject to government imposed limits on professional drivers (details here).
Pros
  • It will add so much to your experience!
  • Worry-free - no need to worry about driving on the other side of the road, dealing with roundabouts and narrow roads, or finding how to get to your destination
  • We use the best vehicles available in the UK
  • Our drivers are awesome and will make your trip special
  • You can leave belongings in vehicle
  • You can stop for lunch, dinner, or to visit the castle on the way (subject to driver limitations)
Cons
  • Cost (although it becomes much more affordable with more people in the group)
  • Driver Limitations (although generally not much of an issue in the UK as restrictions are generous)
Weather in England

Annual Temperature, Precipitation, and Daylight

The below chart contains the weather information that most golfers are interested in knowing when planning a trip to England. The data below is for Liverpool (Northwest England). The weather in the rest of the country and in Wales is fairly similar; however, the London area is on average a few to a handful of degrees warmer than Liverpool each month in the spring and summer and gets about 30% less rain during these months. The South Coast of England has similar temperatures to Liverpool in the spring and summer and on average gets about 30% less rain than Liverpool during the golf season. We organize golf trips beginning at the end of March and running through the end of October. Weather is only one of the factors to consider when planning a trip. Be sure to get advice from your Golf Travel Advisor on the other factors (e.g., course closures and availability). Don't make the mistake of choosing your month of travel only based on the weather!
