Opened in 2003, Sandy Hills Links has quickly matured into one of Ireland’s finest modern links courses. Designed by Pat Ruddy, the course cuts directly through the towering dunes from start to finish, creating a thrilling and visually stunning challenge for golfers of all abilities. Sandy Hills combines beauty and bite in perfect balance.
At 7,255 yards from the tips, it was built with championship play in mind, yet multiple teeing options make it accessible to all. Narrow fairways framed by marram-covered dunes give an impression of intimidation from the tee, though the landing areas are generous. The routing through the dunes offers breathtaking views of Sheephaven Bay and the Old Tom Morris Links below, evoking comparisons to Royal Portrush and Portstewart.
Many holes feature elevated tees and greens or driveable valleys between dunes, adding rhythm and variety. The stretch from holes six to thirteen showcases the course at its best, with dramatic elevation changes, sweeping coastal vistas, and a sense of complete seclusion. Sandy Hills stands today as a masterpiece of modern links design—rugged, natural, and deeply rewarding—on land Old Tom Morris once admired over a century ago.
