Overview:

Royal St George’s is one of the world’s great courses (currently ranked #33 by GOLF Magazine). It has hosted the Open Championship on 14 different occasions. Royal St George’s has been witness to more golfing history than any other in England. It also plays host to several PGA and Amateur Championships, along with Walker and Curtis Cups. Even James Bond had his time on the course. Author Ian Fleming used the course under the name “Royal St. Marks” in his 1959 novel Goldfinger. Designed by William Laidlaw Purves in 1887, it has constantly evolved to pose a tough test for championship and more modest players alike.

Additionally, it is here at Royal St George’s where golf’s most fearsome bunker lives. A dreadfully deep bunker seen on the fairway of the par-4 4th hole. In common with many links, it is characterised by humps and swales, dunes and wild rough, fast-running fairways and deep bunkers. Demanding carries put a premium on strong driving, but even with such uncompromising terrain properly flighted and directed shots will always leave a clear line to the green.

Testimonials

“Each of the courses was great (and different from the others) – Dornoch probably got most votes (we played it twice) but all were excellent.”
