Overview:

Dr Alister MacKenzie had his influence on Kingston Heath GC in Australia during his extended visit down under when he also worked at Royal Melbourne, Victoria and New South Wales golf clubs. The original Des Soutar course (1925) was tweaked by MacKenzie in 1928 when he was paid 250 pounds to redesign the bunkers, and also make the 15th hole into a par three. The end result is simply breathtaking.

Situated on a relatively small piece of land and almost completely flat, the “The Heath” is a wonderful course for golf course architecture aficionados. The bunkering is quite obviously spectacular and the putting surfaces are a delight. It is possibly the most exclusive club in the Sandbelt collection of courses with a “who’s who” collection of prominent business families and influential politicians.  The clubhouse and ambiance is quite elegant and a visitor immediately realizes they are in a special place.

Ranked #20 in the world by GOLF Magazine, Kingston Heath Golf Club is known for pristine conditioning and relatively open playability from the tee, with the difficulty coming from the well bunkered green complexes.

The Pioneer Golf Staff says: “probably would rank higher if it wasn’t practically next door to Royal Melbourne”, “I’ve never seen such beautiful bunkering” and “I could play it every day for the rest of my life”.
